Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions from parents and students considering private violin or viola lessons.
What ages do you teach?
Students beginning around age five through adult students, including graduate-level and pre-professional musicians.
Do you teach both violin and viola?
Yes. Dr. Walfish is a professional violist who also teaches violin. Viola is taught as its own instrument, not an afterthought for violin students.
Do you teach beginners?
Yes. Beginners of any age, including young beginners around age five and adult beginners, are welcome.
Do you teach advanced students?
Yes. Dr. Walfish works with advanced pre-college students, including conservatory and college audition preparation.
Do you teach adults?
Yes. Adult beginners and adult returners are taught with the same seriousness as any other student.
Where are lessons located?
Lessons are taught in person in South Florida, serving Wellington, Lake Worth, and greater Palm Beach County.
Do you teach online?
In-person lessons in South Florida are recommended for young beginners, since hands-on setup and posture guidance are hard to replace remotely. For intermediate through college-level students, Zoom lessons are available and can work well once fundamentals are established.
Do you offer trial lessons or consultations?
Yes. Reach out to discuss your student's goals and current level before scheduling a first lesson.
How often should students take lessons?
Most students take one weekly lesson. Frequency can be adjusted based on level, goals, and upcoming auditions or performances.
What should students bring?
A well-maintained instrument, a music stand, and any current repertoire or method books being used.
Do parents attend lessons?
For younger students, parent involvement is welcomed and often encouraged so parents can support practice at home. Older students typically attend independently.
How much do lessons cost?
Rates depend on lesson length and frequency. Reach out directly for current pricing.
How do we get started?
Send an inquiry through the contact page with your student's age, instrument, and current level, and Dr. Walfish will follow up to discuss next steps.
